As your family grown in numbers and years the space in and around your home can become limited. You may need to start looking for alternative storage solutions for your garden equipment and the items around your home. A used storage shed can be a very inexpensive solution for storing all the outside equipment that you need to keep. This will keep everything well organised, secure and tidy.

A used storage shed can be erected almost anywhere. These sheds are placed in backyards all around the world, people build storage sheds in their yards or gardens and use them for many different purposes.
These are perfect places for all of your garden equipment and tools. If you have a lawn mower or hover mower this is a great place to keep them safe when not being used.

What about used storage sheds for the larger children’s toys that like bicycles, scooters, skateboards and sledges. Why not take it a step further and create the perfect toy store for your kids. They would know exactly where their toys are, keep a lot of mess out of the house and likely give them more room and comfort in their own bedrooms.

Do you have pets?. If you do you will know that they can end up with a surprisingly large amounts of kit of their own. Toys, baskets, all their flea powders and cleaning products. Grooming kits, bulk food and bedding materials. If you have a dog that likes to spend a lot of time in garden you may even consider a bed area in the shed where he can find shade on those sunny days and pop in when those unexpected showers occur. Remember though that storage sheds do not generally have regulated environments so they may not be suitable to keep pets in on a permanent basis without the proper provision.

As long as you consider the conditions you can also safely store many items that you would normally store in your house. Cleaning equipment for example and even freezers. Many people store items in their house that they do not often use and these can be the perfect candidates for keeping in used storage sheds

Used storage sheds can come in many different materials. Wood is traditional but plastic and metal are also popular and can be a real bargain. Plastic for instance will last a lifetime with little maintenance, metal storage sheds are ideal for mowers and motor bikes or flammable items like paints. Whatever your choice simply keep it maintained and it will serve you well and bring some organisation to your storage needs.

An Englishman’s home may be his castle but in many places, including England, it’s really his used garden shed that keeps him and his garden belongings safe and protected.

A used garden shed is essential for all gardens. Keeping your children’s toys and your prized tools in one place so they are always at hand. They will also be protected from the elements and nefarious characters.

Even in a small home garden, you can make more of the space with well organized storage of your larger possessions like mowers, bikes and garden furniture. With these larger items neatly stored, your garden will benefit from more space and less clutter. A large garden that has of furniture and other items can save you even more space.

You need to consider some things before choosing your used garden shed. The size for a start! The bigger the better generally. A garden shed is like a fridge or freezer in that the volume of stuff to be stored will grow to fit the space available.

You should choose what material it will be constructed of and think about the colour or exterior finish. You may want your shed to blend with your other buildings or your house. Consider the type of windows and door it may need. Some used garden sheds can last for many years so consider your needs before building or buying. Will it still do the job in a few years time?

With your garden shed selected you can often assemble it yourself or arrange for it to be done for you. It may depend on the time you have available and your DIY skills. You may be able to get your shed delivered and built as part of the purchase price!

Putting your own garden shed together can be very satisfying and of will likely save you some money. Experienced gardeners may want to assemble their own shed or even build one themselves from shed plans.

Garden sheds from the internet usually come with easy to follow guides. For a reasonable DIY’er even a large shed can be put together in a weekend if you have the help of a second person. Two people make shed building very much easier.

If you need to arrange for your shed to be assembled by someone else just ensure you check around as labour prices can vary. If the assemble of your garden shed is not included in the price then ask – how much will it cost? Check prices against with local tradesmen or you ask a DIY enthusiast pal who may be pleased to help in exchange hamburger and a couple of chilled beers.

It doesn’t matter how you get your used garden shed up just so long as you do. Take pleasure from your tidy garden and comfort from knowing your tools and toys are safe and protected.

Considering buying a shed? Stunned by the prices of new sheds? What about used sheds? You may want to consider buying one or more used sheds.

Used sheds will certainly save you money but you need to consider some other things before paying out for a used shed. I’ve put together the following thoughts to help you avoid the pitfalls.
First off there are many different types of sheds, both in style, construction and materials. Whilst the style of the shed may simply be a matter of personal choice, the size will be determined by what and how much you want to store.

What are you going to use your shed for? Do you have a specific storage requirements? You can get general garden sheds, tool sheds and outdoor sheds for a variety of uses.
It’s condition and construction material are likely to be the most important factors in your decision to buy a used shed. The materials should be considered carefully and inspected thoroughly before considering a purchase. It is the condition of each that really has it’s value and any ongoing maintenance costs.

Generally there are three main material types – wooden sheds, metal sheds and plastic sheds. Lets look at these individually.

Used Wooden Sheds
Wooden sheds tend to be sturdy and are designed to last for many years. They do however need ongoing maintenance and can easily be painted, stained or protected. Used wooden sheds may be a very good idea. You do need to look closely at the wood and ensure it has no rot or insect infestation or damage. Check carefully where the floor meets the walls and also the ends of the apexes or roof joints. Wooden sheds also tend to have roofing felt to protect the it from the weather so make sure that has not been neglected as rot cab quickly set in if there are leaks. Unfortunately the only way to repair rotten or worm eaten wood is to replace it. If you see those kinds of problems in your used sheds then leave them where they are.

Used Metal Sheds
Metal sheds general have two varieties, steel and aluminium and both can vary considerably in quality. Steel sheds are generally sturdier than aluminium sheds but the gauge or thickness of the metal in both is important. Obviously the thicker the better (but of course also heavier, especially steel). You should also check for rust in the steel sheds as this is the biggest problem. Depending on whether any rust is simply surface and on what parts of the shed it can be over painted with rust resistant paint or smaller parts may be easily replaced. Some dents are to be expected and can easily be knocked out if you require a more aesthetic finish but if there is a significant amount of rust or it is deep into the structure then give it a wide berth.

Used Plastic Sheds
Plastic sheds, often referred to as vinyl sheds, are extremely hard wearing. There is very little, other than physical attack, that deteriorates the material or the construction. They are extremely resistant to water and insects, they don’t rust and are nor easily damaged. Needless to say a used plastic shed can be a very good buy. The only downside of plastic or vinyl used sheds is that they tend to suffer from color fade.
Finding used sheds can sometimes be a challenge. Try looking online for used sheds. They are often listed on Ebay or Craigslist and the like. Google search may pull up many classified ads and other locally based sites. You will almost certainly need to buy locally as it will be difficult and expensive tyo arange shipping of a used shed. Most often they are ‘buyer collects’ and may even need to be dismantled by you as well. Actually this is an advantage as you will be familiar with the construction and reassembly will be much easier and you will have been able to ensure that thre are no parts missing.

Used sheds will most certainly save you a lot of money, at least in the short term. However you need to ensure you checkout your impending purchase thoroughly before you buy. Later repairs and ongoing maintenance can quickly eat into the savings you make by buying used sheds.
